MR. UKAIL

Ukail is part of the Outreach and Education team at St. John’s Island National Marine Laboratory. He holds a degree in Environmental Earth Systems Science, with a specialisation in Ecology, from NTU.

Rooted in a deep love for the ocean, his work and interests range from marine ecology and biodiversity to exploring relationships between coastal communities and the sea. He has hands-on experience in marine conservation, ranging from coral restoration efforts to intertidal and subtidal biodiversity surveys. Alongside his role at the marine station, he volunteers with a descendant-led initiative to support the documentation of fishing practices and marine ecological knowledge of the Orang Laut in Singapore. He believes in bridging the cultural heritage of our native sea people with marine science and conservation.

Here at the marine station, he hopes to connect more people with our local marine life, foster a greater appreciation for the marine research conducted and cultivate stronger collective marine stewardship.
