Primary Job Location: St John's Island Marine Laboratory.
A Lab Executive is required to oversee/manage laboratories at St John's Island National Marine Lab (SJINML). For this position, the officer will be overseeing labs handling chemicals for the research, including HPLC, natural products research and histology. The officer will be responsible for ensuring chemical safety as well as management of chemicals at SJINML.
Responsibilities:
1) Lab management: oversee facilities and researchers using the labs under officer's charge. This includes lab and equipment maintenance, researcher training and safety management.
2) Selected officer will be in charge of chemical safety management for SJINML. This includes: -
- Upkeep and inventory of chemical store and relevant authority compliances.
- Management of chemical waste and its safe disposal.
- Researcher training to ensure safe use of chemicals at SJINML.
3) Support research scientists for their research. This may include assisting to supervise students and providing skills training.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- Minimum qualification required: Degree with major in Chemistry, Biochemistry or equivalent Chemical Sciences. Additional minor modules in Life Science and Biology will be advantageous.
- Interest in marine biology and environment conservation will be useful as he/she would be working closely with marine science researchers.
- First aider experience would be useful.
- Candidate must be able to swim.
- Good communication skills are required.
